AMES — Audi Crooks scored the winning shot as time expired, scoring a season-high 33 points and No. 8 Iowa State survived with an 80-78 win over Drake on Sunday afternoon.
Addie Brown had 13 points and eight rebounds, Emily Ryan had 11 points and 12 assists and Kenzie Hare had 10 points for the Cyclones (5-1), who avoided a second straight loss.
The Cyclones suffered their first loss of the season on Wednesday, losing 87-75 at Northern Iowa.
The Bulldogs (2-3) were led by guard Katie Dinevier, who had 39 points on 13-of-16 shooting and 8-of-10 from 3-point range. Dinneveer went 6-of-6 from the charity stripe.
Anna Miller added 18 points and Abby Aalsma had 11 points off the bench in Drake’s attempt to dethrone Iowa State.
“We gave it our all, but we just couldn’t come close,” Drake head coach Allison Pohlman said. “We just gave them a little too much time… Great players make great plays and that’s what happened in the end.
“We tried to be strategic with our timing and urgency. They were great at getting into position and creating points. It feels like it was decided by just one play, but a few other places. If we could have reinforced that, we might have executed a little better when we needed to.”
