Wilderness Rwanda has unveiled Bisate Reserve, a luxury property adjacent to Volcanoes National Park that offers luxury to gorilla trekking enthusiasts.
This intimate lodge sleeps just 8 people in 4 thatched villas. Each villa has a private deck with hot tub, fireplace and 360 degree views of all six of Virunga’s volcanoes. This facility will serve as a sister lodge to the existing Wilderness Bisate Lodge.
Designed by architect Nick Pullman and interior designer Carine Williams-Wynn, the lodge combines traditional materials such as thatch, wood, hand-hewn volcanic rock and local basketry. Facilities include a mudroom for trek preparation, a climate-controlled wine tower, and the exclusive Bisate Kwanda Day Lounge.

Executive Chef Angelus Karangwa oversees the culinary program, which emphasizes East African flavors and local produce from two on-site kitchen gardens. This lodge offers both private in-villa dining and communal experiences.

In addition to gorilla trekking, other activities include golden monkey viewing, mountain climbing, and hiking to Master Diane’s former research center. Cultural experiences include sessions with local artist Rigoberto Widuhaie, whose gorilla artwork is displayed throughout the grounds.
The lodge represents a significant conservation investment, with Wilderness planting more than 100,000 trees to transform the 42-hectare concession from agricultural land to forest.
“Our core mission here is to go beyond luxurious hospitality and embrace a deep commitment to conservation,” said Wilderness Rwanda Chairman Manzi Kayihura.
