Shakira has officially given away a lavish present she bought herself after her split from Spanish soccer player Gerard Pique, who she was with for 11 years.
The 47-year-old singer shared a recent post on Instagram, announcing that he would be giving away a purple Lamborghini to one lucky fan. Her contest is not only a celebration of her latest single, “Soletra” (meaning single in Spanish), but also her way of showing love to her devoted fans.
“I promised it was a loan! I confirmed it! I want to give my car to someone who really wants it and enjoy new unforgettable moments with the people I love most!” she captioned the post in Spanish. I translated it into English and wrote:
Shakira bought herself this meaningful gift for the first time in 2022 after announcing her split from Pique, with whom she shares two sons, Milan, 11, and Sasha, nine.
“This car was a gift to myself as I started my single life, but I realized that what really matters is connections with people,” she explained in a press release. “Cars, clothes, and material things don’t change us. It’s the connections we build with the people we love that really make a difference.”
As stated on the contest website, U.S. residents over the age of 18 can enter by sharing a creative Dane video of “Soletra” with the hashtag #ElCarroDeShakira on Instagram and TikTok. All videos must be submitted by November 29th before Shakira will choose five finalists for a chance to win the car, which was also featured in her music video for “Soletra.”
On December 5th, the public will vote for one of the five finalists, and the winner will be announced the following day.
The “Hips Don’t Lie” singer is saying goodbye to her car more than two years after their breakup.
In an interview with The Times in March, she spoke about the dynamics of her relationship with Pique and how she now has the opportunity to prioritize her music.
“I put my career on hold for a long time so I could play soccer next to Gerard,” she said. “Many sacrifices were made for love.
In April, she opened up about her single life and finding love again, and shared her candid thoughts on monogamy. “I can’t say that I don’t believe in love because I look at the example of my parents who were together for 50 years. How they look into each other’s eyes, hold each other’s hands, and how they can’t live apart from each other.” said singer Marie Claire at the time.
“I have witnessed love, but I myself have not been so lucky. It has been rewarding.”
She admitted that finding love like her parents was once a top priority for her, but plans can change along the way. “Deep down, I always knew that having a husband was the most important thing in my life,” she explained.
“I was looking for a man like my father, a man who was still in love with each other, who had a child and then planned to be together forever. I sacrificed so much for this. I paid. I was faithful. But sometimes things don’t go as planned. You move on,” she added.
