McDonald’s still sells birthday sheet cakes for cheap, so we’ll tell you all about it.
When we were kids, there was no such thing as a McDonald’s birthday cake. 🍰
These cakes were the highlight of the McDonald’s birthday party. Along with my Happy Meal, my friends and I walked around the play place. I didn’t know they still existed until I recently asked at my local McDonald’s…and guess what? They got it for only $6! 😱

🎂🍔 Did you know that McDonald’s has cake? 😱 It’s a secret menu item that isn’t listed on the menu, so you’ll have to ask the manager. It was available in Page’s stores for just $6, but prices and availability may vary. 🤯 Such a fun surprise! #McDonald’s Hack #Secret Menu #Cheap Food #Cake Lover #Gourmet Discoveries #Hip 2 Save @McDonald’s

Of course I had to get one to share with my kids. Even my husband is getting nostalgic! And hip sidekick Paige also purchased the following Happy Birthday items for $6. 🎉
A super fun (and affordable!) blast from the past! 🎂💕
Here’s how I ordered it and how it compared to the cake I remembered so much!
First, I stopped at a local McDonald’s and ordered a birthday cake.
The girl who was taking my order was very confused at first, but when she got back to the speaker she was shocked to see that they did indeed carry these cakes. I wanted vanilla, but chocolate was all I had in stock at the moment, so I went with that.
However, not all McDonald’s locations are participating, so it’s probably best to call ahead before getting your hopes up.
When we got home, the hubs and the kids gathered around the table while I officially unboxed the cake. To my surprise, it was the same as I remembered. It had plain white frosting with a sugar print of Donald McDonald in the center. If looks were anything to go by, we were looking at the real thing.
Then cut into cakes…
And sadly, to say we were disappointed would be an understatement.
The cake was super dry and the frosting didn’t taste like the frosting I remembered. It was sweet, but strangely it had almost no taste. I know taste buds can change over time, but I don’t think this is my memory playing tricks on me or that my taste buds have changed. To me, personally, it seemed like they had changed the recipe over the years and this was no longer a winner for me or my family. 😔
The bright side? McDonald’s birthday cakes are super cheap!
The cake itself costs only $6, so it’s not a huge investment if you want to try it for yourself to see if it lives up to the hype and memories. It’s entirely possible that the cake we tried was stale, or that we were just having a holiday. Although it’s a shame, this cake is cheap enough that it might be worth ordering just for the nostalgia alone.
Note: I rated the price of the cake at $6, but others have said they paid in the range of $6 to $10, so prices may vary by region.
And did you know that McDonald’s actually has its own secret menu?
That’s correct! Most of us are familiar with Starbucks’ secret menu, but McDonald’s has one as well.
From fries with Big Mac sauce to Neapolitan Shakes to the creation known as the Land, Sea and Air Burger, McDonald’s has plenty of off-menu options for the adventurous. The only drawback is that some menu items are regionally exclusive. Not all locations are participating. As always, it’s best to call ahead, but it doesn’t hurt to ask next time you’re at the drive-thru.
Complete your nostalgic meal by having a Happy Meal with the latest toys.
