Main Street businesses aren’t just the fuel for local economies, they’re also vital to healthy communities
HONULULU, November 19, 2024—A new report released yesterday by the nation’s leading small business organization shows that Hawaii’s small businesses have a much deeper value to their communities. A timely reminder as Small Business Saturday approaches November 30th.
“In addition to providing jobs, small businesses contribute to their communities in many ways, including by donating their time, financial support, and in-kind donations,” said Holly Wade, executive director of the NFIB Research Center. Ta. “This report provides unique insight into how small businesses and their employees go beyond business operations and benefit communities across the country, even in the face of economic challenges. Regardless, small businesses work hard to shape and enrich communities.”
According to the report:
“Nearly three-quarters (76%) of all small business owners have volunteered their time to a civic organization, charity, youth sports program, school, religious organization, or similar cause in the past 12 months. He reports that he worked hard. “The most common way small businesses used to support their communities was through financial support… 90% of small business owners reported that in the past 12 months they had given their support to their local community, civic groups, charities, youth sports programs, etc. , financially supported a school, religious organization, or similar activity.” “Sixty-three percent of small business owners report making in-kind donations… (e.g., providing meeting space for local fundraisers, donating excess inventory for a cause, raising funds) etc.).
The report also looked at activity groups in which small and medium-sized enterprises participate. This report is a national snapshot of NFIB member small business owners and is not broken down by state. A typical NFIB member employs one to nine people and reports annual gross sales of approximately $500,000.
