Deciding where to spend your golden years is an important part of your retirement. There are several options in the DC area, including the District itself.
Ah, your golden years, time to relax and enjoy. However, the question lurks there: “Where?”
U.S. News & World Report has created a list cataloging the best places to retire in 2025. And there are some best locations to consider, including the nation’s capital.
US News’ Dawn Bradbury told WTOP: Anecdotally speaking, they have great service. It’s usually easy to walk and has good transportation links. ”
While affordability is certainly a concern, well-being is just as important.
“Washington, in particular, performed well because of its high scores for happiness, access to quality health care and the job market,” Bradbury said.
“The job market is important for retirees because not everyone is ready to leave the workforce completely.”
Overall, D.C. didn’t make the top 10, coming in at No. 12, but it ranked No. 3 in happiness, “of 150 cities that share the Cares Community Happiness Index.” That’s pretty good,” Bradbury said.
Do you have an uplifting message at the end?
“There’s always something to do in Washington,” Bradbury said.
When it comes to other hot spots, Virginia Beach gets high marks.
“We ranked 8th out of 150 cities for happiness. Affordability is middling, but desirability is very high and the job market is good. So we think we’re seeing a theme here. I think so,” Bradbury told WTOP.
