LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Christmas is still more than a month away, but several women-owned businesses gathered at Melwood Art Center on Sunday to help others shop early.
Amanda Dare, owner of gift shop Woman-Owned Wallet (WOW), hosted WOW Pinkmas, an event aimed at supporting and uplifting women-owned businesses. This was the first year for this event.
“Especially in business, we can really come together and not have to compete with each other,” Dare said. “I think that’s something that’s been perpetuated around the world, but we’re disproving that by coming to this market and celebrating each other.”
More than 70 vendors participated and sold a variety of products.
Cristina Leon, owner of Nativas, provided a table for the event. We sell handmade products made by indigenous Colombian women.
“It’s good to be close to the community…My job supporting other women is participating in events that support women, so I’m really happy to be here,” Leon said. Said.
WOW will also soon begin filming a program showcasing women-owned businesses. Donations to this project can be made through the company’s website.
