Notre Dame is a flawed team, but a resilient one.
Notre Dame isn’t a perfect team. There are many advantages and disadvantages. For example, the Irish defense is one of the best in the entire country. Passing game?
Well, not really. Notre Dame struggled to find a consistent rhythm in that area all season. Kick game? That is becoming a problem.
But despite all its shortcomings, and despite having its back against the proverbial CFP wall since Week 2 of the season, Notre Dame has outscored its opponents 343-85 in the span, snapping an eight-game winning streak. I tore it off. Despite a schedule that wouldn’t be considered a murderer’s row, this score ledger is the most impressive.
Winning by paying attention to details is a luxury.
Notre Dame fans quickly become frustrated with an offense that has been sputtering at times and can’t seem to find its footing, a passing game that hasn’t found its rhythm for most of the season, and a kicking game that has been disappointing lately. These are natural concerns for a team aiming to advance in the CFP.
The point here is not that these problems exist, but that every contender in the country this season has weaknesses in their teams, and there is no such thing as a super team.
The important thing here is to understand what a luxury it is to have this kind of frustration in a game where your team is winning big. This is the sign of a very good soccer team. And that’s exactly what fans are experiencing this fall in South Bend, Indiana.
