SAN DIEGO, Calif. — Two San Diego elementary schools are among the top 10 public elementary schools in California, according to a new ranking from U.S. News & World Report.
U.S. News researchers created the 2025 ranking of America’s best public elementary schools based on publicly available data from the U.S. Department of Education. Elementary schools are considered in the analysis from kindergarten through sixth grade.
According to the report, San Diego’s Ocean Air Elementary School ranked eighth and Solana Ranch Elementary School ranked 10th among the top 10 public elementary schools in California. Cupertino’s William Faria Elementary School had the highest score in the state.
The ranking methodology focused on assessing the status of students at or above proficiency in math and reading/language arts, while also taking into account students’ backgrounds and performance in core subjects. Student-teacher ratio was applied to resolve the relationship.
Lamont Jones, U.S. News’ education editor, said the rankings are designed to let parents know how well their schools are doing in providing a quality education and setting students up for future success. It is intended as an evaluation tool, it said in a news release.
