Whoopi Goldberg claimed on “The View” that a popular Staten Island bakery refused her service because of her political views, but the bakery owner denied the claim.
During Wednesday’s episode of “The View,” Goldberg and his co-hosts celebrated Charlotte Ruth’s 69th birthday with desserts. Goldberg says it’s a nostalgic New York treat that was his mother’s favorite.
Ms. Goldberg told the audience that most of her birthday orders went through because of the baker’s opposition to her left-wing political positions.

“They said the oven was broken and all that stuff, but people just went and picked it up. So I’m not going to say who made it,” Goldberg said. She claimed that her order was not denied because of her gender, but because “they didn’t like my politics.”
Goldberg, an outspoken liberal, won’t mention President-elect Trump’s name on air.
Despite the potential scorn, Goldberg encouraged the audience and co-hosts Alyssa Farrah Griffin, Joy Behar, Sarah Haines and Sunny Hostin to dig into Charlotte Ruth’s dessert.
“But that’s okay, because, you know? Listen, this is a celebration of my mom,” Goldberg said. “Pick this up and celebrate with me and my mom. Thank you to everyone who celebrated my birthday today.”

Entertainment Weekly later identified the bakery as Holterman’s Bakery, a 145-year-old family-owned establishment on Staten Island, by examining Charlotte Ruth’s dessert itself. The packaging, a white paper cup with pink polka dots, was said to indicate that the dessert came from a family-run bakery.
Bakery owner Jill Halterman denied Goldberg’s explanation, saying the bakery’s problems were not politically motivated, but stemmed from a mechanical problem with the boiler, which was built in 1930. He explained that this is an ongoing issue.
“I told Whoopi, ‘I can’t do it right now,'” Halterman told the show. “There’s so much going on in my boiler.”
Halterman confirmed that she was ultimately able to make 50 treats, which were collected early Wednesday morning for a taping of “The View.”
Halterman reiterated that her failure to immediately confirm the order had nothing to do with Goldberg’s political beliefs, saying that given existing technical difficulties, “we don’t want to make promises that we can’t deliver.” ” he added.
Staten Island Live reported that Halterman’s home has been “flooded” with calls since the episode aired.
