Sen. Bill Hagerty (R-Tenn.) today praised Gaetz in an interview with MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell, saying, “There is no better person to communicate the American people’s frustration with the weaponization of the Department of Justice. No,” he said.
Regarding the sex-trafficking allegations against Gaetz, he told Mitchell, “It’s amazing how he’s more upset about the allegations than the weaponization of the Justice Department.”
The Justice Department investigated these charges but did not charge him with any crimes.
Gaetz is a staunch ally of President Trump and has been an outspoken critic of the Justice Department’s investigation into the January 6 attack on the Capitol.
Hagerty also called Pete Hegseth, Trump’s nominee for secretary of defense, an “inspirational leader” despite his lack of experience in the position.
“The Department of Defense has been extremely mismanaged under this administration, and it needs to change dramatically,” Hagerty said. They need to stop researching pronouns and bring back lethality, and someone like Pete could lead the way. ”
Asked if he would serve as Treasury secretary, Hagerty, a ranking member of the Banking Committee’s subcommittee on national security and international trade, said he did not speculate whether he would serve in the Trump administration’s cabinet. He said no.
“President Trump is going to make these decisions, and they’re going to be very personal to President Trump. He’s going to surround himself with a team that he’s comfortable with and who can do well in any role.” I plan to put it there,” he said. I have. ”
The senator said he has not yet received a call from Gaetz asking for assistance. NBC News reported today that Gaetz and Vance are calling on senators to take and confirm Gaetz’s temperature.
