Millions of people on the East Coast of the United States are reporting problems with their Verizon Fios internet. According to Down Detector, reports began coming in early Tuesday morning (local time). The US heat map shows that users are primarily reporting issues in Boston, New York, and Washington. The region covers an area of nearly 300 miles or 500 kilometers from Philadelphia and Pennsylvania to Richmond and Virginia. Verizon’s wireless network is one of the largest in the United States, covering 70% of the country with its LTE network.
Several users started posting about the outage on X (formerly Twitter).
One user wrote, “Night owls and insomniacs are blindsided by Verizon as there are clearly power outages across the country. Definitely here in DC, Maryland, and Virginia. I think so,” he commented. “This Verizon internet outage seems to be unusual. It’s also a nuisance,” said another user.
“Massive Verizon internet outage occurred overnight. Already been down for over 2 hours,” said a third user.
“A power outage or network maintenance is impacting your area. We don’t have complete details yet. We apologize for the inconvenience and are working hard to make sure you have all the information you need,” Verizon told one user. “I will.” We’ll keep you updated with information from our networking team. ”
According to Down Detector, outage reports spiked between midnight and 2 a.m. ET, when the network received thousands of complaints.
90% of these complaints related to internet services, 9% were described as “total outages” and 1% affected TV streaming.
Verizon Fios is the company’s fiber-optic internet, television, and phone service.
