Mercedes-Benz has achieved great results with the 2024 CLE Cabriolet. The CLE 450 4MATIC occupies the sweet spot between compact agility and midsize presence.
Think of it as the automotive equivalent of a perfectly tailored blazer. It’s cropped enough to look sporty, but has enough volume to command respect.
The design team has done a great job here, creating a silhouette that looks purposeful when the top is up and aggressively sporty when it’s down. Its soft top disappears in 20 seconds at speeds up to 37 miles per hour. Perfect for those moments when the weather changes faster than a toddler in a candy store.
Under the hood, a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six engine with mild hybrid assist is a gem, producing 375 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. The 48-volt mild hybrid system adds welcome efficiency and seamless start-stop operation. It gets 23 miles per gallon in the city and 32 miles per gallon on the highway.
Inside the cabin, there’s a fine balance between digital wizardry and analogue comfort. A 12-inch digital gauge cluster and 11.9-inch central touchscreen take up most of the dashboard and run the latest MBUX software. There’s a bit of a learning curve, but once you master it, everything makes sense. Front and rear seats are equally comfortable.
The real magic happens from the top down. Mercedes’ AIRCAP wind deflection system works to create a kind of bubble around the cabin. You can have a conversation on the freeway without sounding like you’re shouting in a crowded restaurant. It’s these little touches that justify the over $70,000 price tag.
The CLE 450 handles with more agility than its size might suggest. The 4MATIC all-wheel drive system provides year-round peace of mind. This isn’t a sports car, but it zips through corners with enough poise to entertain without spilling your coffee.
The realists among us will appreciate that Mercedes has increased cargo space compared to its predecessor. The trunk measures 13.6 cubic feet with the top up, but that shrinks with the top down.
The 2024 Mercedes-Benz CLE 450 Cabriolet is a well-built luxury convertible. The CLE 450 4MATIC Cabriolet proved that convertibles can be luxury cars that can compete with the top of the market. Try it out and let us know what you think.
