Rudy Giuliani still keeps his Mercedes car and luxury watch despite a court order to hand them over, his lawyer has revealed.
The former New York City mayor is being forced to transfer his assets to an administration controlled by two Georgia election officials.
In December 2023, a Washington, D.C., jury found Ruby Freeman and her daughter falsely claiming that they added votes for Joe Biden while working at an election tabulation center in Atlanta, Georgia, in 2020. has awarded Shay Moss more than $148 million in damages. .
Mr. Giuliani accused Mr. Freeman and Mr. Moss of election fraud at a polling place in Fulton County, Georgia. He distributed a clip of edited security footage that he falsely claimed showed him handing over a USB drive.
New York federal judge Louis Lehman ordered the former New York mayor to sell his $6 million apartment, 1980 Mercedes, more than 20 luxury watches, sports memorabilia and other possessions by Oct. 26. Gave it to be transferred.
On November 6, Giuliani’s lawyer Kenneth Caruso notified Lehman in writing that Giuliani had not transferred the property, but Freeman and Moss’ lawyers said they had not arranged the transfer.
Mr. Caruso wrote that his office had instructed the plaintiff’s attorney where the watch could be retrieved.
“Plaintiffs have not given any instructions regarding the watches, nor have they sent agents to retrieve the watches,” he wrote.
He said his company was also unable to sign delivery of the car because the transfer documents from the plaintiff were missing.
“It is clear, and it should be, that the plaintiff cannot simply take possession of the defendant’s car without a written transfer of title. Although we have not yet received such documentation, the defendant Ready to sign. Car remains in Palm Beach,” he wrote. .
Giuliani showed up to vote in a Mercedes convertible on Nov. 5, then organized a press corps so photographers could film him behind the wheel.
Newsweek emailed Mr. Giuliani’s spokesperson and lawyers for Mr. Freeman and Mr. Moss for comment on Thursday.
Caruso wrote that she is awaiting paperwork from the apartment cooperative so that her New York apartment can be handed over to the plaintiffs.
“Of course, this is the most valuable asset at issue. Last week, we instructed the co-op’s attorneys at 45 East 66th Street to transfer the stock and exclusive lease rights to the plaintiffs. Co-op’s attorneys requested the following evidence: The defendant is the sole owner of this property after the divorce on November 4, 2024, and we provide such evidence (divorce decree and attached documents) of the cooperative. I have submitted it to my attorney,” he wrote.
“Defendants will of course continue to cooperate, but the next steps are beyond their control, and we believe they are compliant in this regard,” Caruso wrote.
Co-ops are the most common type of apartment ownership in New York. Those who purchase a condominium are given equity in the building, and the residents work together to manage the entire building.
Mr. Liman ordered Mr. Giuliani to appear in court on Thursday to explain why he did not transfer those assets. He issued the order before Caruso filed his brief.
Mr. Giuliani is expected to appear in court with his defense team.
