We break down everything you need to know about Target’s price match guarantee policy changes.
Target’s price match policy has been updated. Here’s what you need to know:
One of the biggest perks of shopping at Target is that the store has a year-round price match policy.
And during the holidays, that policy becomes a little more lenient. Starting Nov. 7, if you purchase an item in-store or online and the price drops at Target by Dec. 24, 2024, you’ll be able to request a price match.
To request a price match, you must present proof of the current lower price at Guest Services at your local Target store. Or, for purchases at Target.com, call Target.com Guest Services at 1-800-591-3869.
What are the details of the current target price matching policy?
Earlier this year, Target made new changes to its policies. Currently, price match is only accepted from Amazon and Walmart. This is a significant change from Target’s previous policy, which allowed price matching with approximately 29 competitors.
Customers can also request a price match when an item’s price is lower on Target.com or through a Target Circle deal (if they’re a Target Circle member), during the purchase or within 14 days of the purchase. You can request a match. .

Here’s what’s eligible for price match at Target…
Items must be exactly the same including brand, size, weight, color, quantity, and model number. Lower prices must be currently active and in stock, not past listings.
Target also must be able to fact-check the prices displayed and verify the prices on Amazon or Walmart’s main website. Also, be prepared to serve digital ads on mobile devices.
You will also need to bring a receipt/proof of purchase for the item you wish to price match. If you wish to price match a Target Circle deal, you must provide proof of membership in the program (participation in the basic level is free).

Next, we will explain the exclusions to Target’s price match policy.
Unfortunately, the prices do not match in the targeted areas of Hawaii and Alaska.
Rain checks will not be provided if the item is out of stock or sold out to match a competitor’s price. However, we will give you an in-store rain check in the form of a voucher that matches the current sale price of the specific Target location you are at. This is valid for the following periods, depending on your state: 30-45 days.
Other price match exclusions include:
Clearance, closeouts, liquidation sales, damaged, used, opened, refurbished, used, or rental/lease on owned items, discounts on total purchases in store or on site, minimum purchase required Pricing that appears on a competitor’s website only after the guest logs in; Pricing with typos, blitz deals, promo codes, or competitor coupons; “Marketplace” offers from third-party vendors; Place Price Offers Alcohol from Online Retailers Alcohol from Online Retailers Phone Service and Plan Contracts Clinic or Pharmacy Orders Pre-Order Items Target 360 Membership Prices Target Circle Bonuses Registry Coupons Compete Target Circle Deal Prices Cannot be combined with other companies’ prices Items sold by Target Plus™ partners on Target.com or the Target application are not eligible for price match

What about Target’s value for money food?
Whether you’re shopping for groceries at Super Target or a few snacks at regular Target, you’ll be happy to know that certain groceries are also covered. To qualify, produce must be an exact match to the product, including brand name, size, weight, and quantity.
Know up front: Products must be sold using the same unit of measurement (by weight or per item). For example, if Target sells 3 bananas for $3 while Walmart sells 3 pounds for $2, this match is not acceptable. Also, you can’t match items by the pound outside of Super Target.
Now that you know their price match policy, head over to Target and grab these deals.
