On Wednesday, world leaders raced to congratulate Donald Trump on his stunning victory over Kamala Harris in the US election.
European leaders in particular were quick to offer congratulations and offers of cooperation, in contrast to the much more subdued reaction to Trump’s first victory in 2016.
There were some exceptions, such as Russia, but the Foreign Ministry made cool comments about the results, knowing it would not receive congratulations from President Vladimir Putin.
