LCD Soundsystem is known for its groovy electronic rock music that gets fans on the dance floor. But this time, the Grammy Award-winning New York-born band may be wooing fans with something else: new tacos that will only be available in the area for a few months.
The band, which is currently playing a number of shows in Los Angeles until Sunday, November 10th, has teamed up with Homestate, a small local chain that specializes in Texas-inspired food, to create a restaurant called “The Created a limited edition taco with a new name. American dream. ”
“The band wanted to create a taco version of the typical New York bodega sandwich, typically a bacon, egg and cheese breakfast sandwich,” said Andy Valdez, marketing director for the restaurant, which was founded in Los Angeles in 2013. It’s a sandwich.”
The new tacos are named after the band’s latest album, “The American Dream,” and are made with Home State flour tortillas topped with bacon, eggs, American cheese, Frank’s Red Hot Sauce and ketchup.
“It’s a great combination of salty and sweet, salty bacon and hot sauce. It’s just this amazing umami sensation,” Valdez said.
It will be available through January at Home State’s eight stores in Atwater Village, Culver City, Highland Park, Hollywood, Oceanside, Pasadena, Playa Vista and Sherman Oaks. The collaboration is part of the restaurant’s long-running Band Taco program, which combines music and tacos to support local charities. The restaurant has previously created tacos with artists such as Spoon, Questlove, Phoebe Bridgers, Vampire Weekend and Chicano Batman.
“We wanted to combine our love of music and food to help the community,” Valdez said. “We also naturally had a lot of artists coming to the restaurant, so we thought there was something really cool and happening there, so we just put it together,” she added.
However, they are not collaborating with any band. Valdez said he looks for three qualities in a band before teaming up for a new taco. One of the conditions is that the band’s music must be on the restaurant’s playlist, someone in the band must be a customer of the restaurant, and they must be nice.
“Because of LCD Soundsystem, even though they live in New York when they’re in LA, they come here and spend some time here,” she said.
American Dream Tacos will donate $1 for every taco you order to the Sweet Relief Musicians Foundation. The fund provides financial assistance to musicians and music industry workers facing physical or mental health problems, disabilities, or age-related issues.
