Washington:
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, who survived two assassination attempts this summer, suggested Sunday that he doesn’t care if someone attacks him through fake news.
Addressing supporters at a campaign rally in the battleground state of Lititz, Pennsylvania, Trump sparked a new controversy by saying he should never have left the White House after losing the 2020 election.
“Honestly, I shouldn’t have quit. We did a good job,” Trump said in his speech, but quickly changed the subject. “Right now, there are hundreds of lawyers at every polling place.”
President Trump had refused to accept the results of the November 2020 election. His supporters ended up storming the U.S. Capitol on January 6, considered the deadliest day in American democracy.
The former president, now 78, expressed frustration at increased security around him following recent assassination attempts.
“I have a piece of glass here. I don’t have a piece of glass there. And I have this piece of glass here. But all we really have here is fake news. And somebody’s going to have to shoot through the fake news to get me, but I don’t care that much, I don’t care,” Trump said of the thick bulletproof glass surrounding him. You mentioned the gap in the protective glass. .
“Here’s a piece of glass. The problem with that glass is that if you have a four-inch piece of glass that a howitzer can’t get through, it doesn’t look good on TV. No, when you see yourself, it doesn’t look good on TV. , you say it’s not very noticeable, but that’s good, here’s the glass, I’m not worried. Look, I have some people, but there are some people in that group that I don’t like. “There are, but that’s the way it is,” he said.
His remarks were criticized by Democrats. Ammar Moussa, director of rapid response at Harris Waltz, said that while Harris spent today at a Detroit church telling voters about her vision to lift up the nation, Donald Trump broke the Ninth Commandment. He said he was busy.
“Trump spent the final days of the campaign angry but unfazed, lying that the election was stolen out of fear that he would lose. “We deserve a leader who will be in the Oval Office with President Harris in the lead,” Musa said.
Trump campaign communications director Stephen Chan said the president was talking about two assassination attempts that threatened his life, including one that came within a quarter of an inch of killing him, and told the media is always talking about it and joking about it.
“The president’s statement about the installation of protective glass had nothing to do with harm to the media. It was about threats against the president inspired by dangerous rhetoric from Democrats.”
“In fact, President Trump said he was at risk in that the media was protecting him, and therefore himself, and that he should have had a glass protective shield as well. He actually cared more about their well-being than he did about himself! ” Chong said.
