CINCINNATI — Bengals rookie wide receiver Jermaine Burton was surprisingly inactive Sunday.
The 23-year-old is healthy and the Bengals made him a key part of their offensive game plan throughout this week.
What has changed?
Barton was a no-call, no-show during Saturday’s walkthrough, according to multiple league officials.
“He’s working on it. Still maturing and growing,” Burton’s agent, Trevon Smith, said in a text message.
The Bengals selected Barton in the third round (80th overall) in the 2024 NFL Draft. He had a 41-yard catch last week against the Eagles and has two catches this season.
Head coach Zac Taylor and star quarterback Joe Burrow praised Burton ahead of Sunday’s game against the Raiders.
This week, the team built a game plan around Tee Higgins, who was dealing with a quadriceps injury.
Obviously things have changed after missing Saturday’s walkthrough.
We hope to receive more detailed information after the match. According to Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic, Bengals leadership plans to address the situation after Sunday’s game.
