A massive fire broke out on a Michigan highway Saturday, killing at least four helpless drivers and injuring 17 others when a semi-truck that plowed into blocked traffic burst into flames.
According to Fox 2, the driver of the semi failed to stop his vehicle during a traffic stop on the westbound side of Interstate 96 near Lansing around 11:40 p.m.
The truck collided with multiple cars traveling in the left lane and burst into flames.
Photos from the scene showed a large fire engulfing numerous vehicles and spreading out from the highway.
Traffic was backed up due to construction work being carried out further down the road, but the driver did not appear to notice the car as it approached.
The fire incident occurred on an overpass over Michigan Highway 52.
Police said the overpass would be “indefinitely closed” while it was inspected for damage caused by the fire.
“We do not expect the road to open immediately,” Michigan State Police said in a statement on social media.
The injured person was taken to a nearby hospital, but their condition and injuries have not been released, WLNS reported.
