Dodgers designated hitter Shohei Ohtani has proven himself to be one of the greatest athletes in baseball history. But now the 30-year-old prodigy from Japan has also proven himself to be a serious player in the luxury real estate sector by winning Inman’s inaugural World Series of Luxury contest.
The final match went to Ohtani and New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge, who owns a luxurious penthouse in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood with floor-to-ceiling windows and views of the Hudson River.
But while the views of the Hudson River are spectacular, they don’t compare to the views of the ocean or golf course, and you can feel a little salty breeze on your face on a beautiful Hawaiian morning. That’s exactly what Ohtani will be doing away from home in his new home. The gated Hapuna Estate at Mauna Kea Resort on the Big Island has been completed. Development is expected to be completed by the end of 2025.
Because Ohtani is customizing his home, it’s unclear exactly what features the hitting powerhouse will include in the final property. But the listing description for the home under construction at Hapuna Estate says it definitely embodies “unparalleled luxury.”
The design features contemporary spaces with high-end finishes like the Taj Mahal’s quartzite countertops. The home brings the outdoors in with retractable glass walls in the living room and master bedroom suite that opens onto a lanai.
Many properties within the community also feature infinity-edge pools, spas, fire pits, and reflecting ponds.
Located within the Mauna Kea Resort, residents can also choose from a variety of membership levels at the Club at Mauna Kea, which provides access to a breathtaking beach and exclusive amenities.
The facility’s location within a gated community certainly ticks the privacy checkbox that GLOBL RED and Real’s Kofi Nartey previously told Inman is essential for professional athletes.
In recent years, more professionals have focused on incorporating wellness into their home infrastructure, Narty said.
“I’ve seen people build low-temperature plunges, dry-hot saunas, and hyperbaric chambers to get better rest and sleep and recovery. So for the whole wellness component. Sometimes it’s converting a room or adding a room. Athletes are now paying more attention to their health and bodies than ever before, and technology supports that, even within the home. We support you.”
Perhaps Ohtani will opt for a cold plunge to keep his multi-million dollar arm fresh. Readers will have to wait and see how the design takes shape.
Today, the superstar will be busy celebrating another championship, a World Series championship, with the Los Angeles Dodgers parade and stadium celebration starting at 11 a.m. PT at Gloria Molina Grand Park.
