Dear Statesman, we have introduced you to the voters who may play a key role in determining the outcome of the 2024 election. Many of them are Georgians of color, Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, the state’s fastest-growing minority groups. Arab-American voters in Dearborn, Michigan, now the city’s majority, and a surge in the population following a comedian’s racist comments about Puerto Rico at a recent Trump rally, are turning to Republicans. Latino voters in Pennsylvania are a challenge. But it is the nonprofit initiative’s goal to ensure everyone can exercise their right to vote in every election. When We All Vote Beth Link is its executive director and she recently joined the studio. Best regards, Beth Link. Thank you for your participation. Thank you so much for having me. That’s why U.S. voter turnout is notoriously terrible. why is that? In 2024, voting will be more difficult in some areas than it was in 2020. That’s no coincidence. That’s voter suppression. But there are also some logistical barriers. I can’t drive to the polling place. There are no days off from work. I don’t have childcare. The second reason is that people may feel that my vote doesn’t matter or that they don’t know if my vote has power. And the final reason people can’t vote is that they don’t know when or how they will miss the deadline to register to vote. That’s why we’re constantly reaching out to remind people, but we’re also providing information in places you might not expect it. That’s why, for example, we partner with BLK Dating App to set dates, deadlines, and reminders on your dating app. I don’t know if you expect to see a voting reminder on a dating app, but what it does is meet people where they are, to tackle each challenge one at a time. What does the data tell us about young voters? Participation among young voters is increasing, but about half of them don’t know how to vote, what the deadlines are, what the process is, or if their vote is accurate. They say they are finding accurate and reliable information about how that applies to large-scale voting. pie online. So we try to meet local people to fill that gap. And we provide information and tools to help young voters share accurate information. Many of our reports indicate that people across swing states are tired and unenthusiastic, simply exhausted by the malaise of the past few years. So we are feeling stress and anxiety from our core population. But if you have a positive connection to democracy and voting, when we’re training the next generation of voters, it feels different than when it’s stressful. So one of the things we did was partner with Headspace to launch a no-panic political campaign. It meant taking a breather. However, there are also many resources here to help you deal with political anxiety and anxiety about the political process in a non-paralyzing way. How do you encourage people to make the hard effort of coming back again and again? If the candidate doesn’t always win, take the time to continue the conversation and when you ask yourself I voted now to make sure that we have other opportunities to participate in the process and that you can continue to see yourself in the process in the long term. Your organization is nonpartisan, but of course it was started by Michelle Obama, who is very partisan. How do you explain to people that you are nonpartisan? Weallvote was founded in 2018. We’ve been on a mission to change the culture around voting, close race, age and vote disparities, and increase participation in every election. And Mrs. Obama was founded when we all intentionally voted to be nonpartisan. Because we’re not telling you who to vote for, we’re asking you to vote. But ultimately, your voice matters because of the message we’re sending. We invite you to be part of the process and commit to long-term cultural change. Beth Link when we all vote. Thank you very much
