ONA — Several Northern Panhandle athletes will compete Saturday at the West Virginia State Cross Country Meet at Cabell Midland High School.

Wheeling Park (Class AAA), Magnolia (Class A) and Tyler Consolidated (Class A) all qualified as teams by finishing in the top three in their respective Region I competitions.
In Class AAA, the Patriots finished third with 93 points, followed by University with 30 points and Morgantown second with 54 points.
Senior Reddick Moore finished seventh in 16 minutes, 2.7 seconds. Freshman Rylan Moore finished 12th in 16:16 and senior Jacob Murphy finished 28th in 16:35. Freshmen Tyler Bishop and Jake Breitinger were 25th and 41st, respectively, with times of 16:49.7 and 18:46.3. Junior Luca Schwartz was nestled in 32nd place with a time of 17:49.4.
In Class A, the Blue Eagles defeated the Silver Knights 70-73 to take second place. Host St. Mary’s won with 41 points.
Individually, Tyler Consolidated junior Amos Kimble, who finished seventh at state a year ago, won the district with a time of 15:44.45. Second place went to Magnolia College senior Landen Davis, last fall’s state runner-up, who finished in 16:09.81. The Silver Knights’ Travis Moore took third place as a sophomore with a time of 16:16.84.
Other athletes for the Blue Eagles were junior Riley Dennis (9th, 16:59.02); Junior Parker Verkau (13th place, 17:56.07). senior Corey Trott (18th, 18:30.35); junior Alex Yeager (28th, 20:55.70) and classmate Nicholas Matheny (32nd, 24:30.01).
The Silver Knights team included senior Brody Nice (10th place, 16:59.49); Freshman Malachi Davis (29th, 21:13.01). Sophomore Jonathan Cross (30th place, 21:35.68) and freshman Trey Meyer (31st place, 22:13.93).
Class AA individual qualifiers were Oak Glen junior Bode Konchar (13th place, 19:33.9) and Wheeling Central junior Michael Hutnick (19th place, 20:07.3).

In Class AAA, Wheeling Park freshman Brenna Tipton took fourth place overall with a time of 18 minutes, 41.5 seconds, and John Marshall sophomore Zoe Zervos was good enough for seventh place with a time of 19 minutes, 02.7 seconds. Zervos also qualified last year.
In Class AA, Oak Glen sophomore Cameron Lacy took fourth in 22:13.1. She placed 20th at the state level last year. Weir seniors Naomi Young (9th place, 24:08.4) and Olivia Shetler (13th place, 25:05.9) also ran for state. Young was 26th last fall.
In Class A, the Tyler Consolidated tandem of freshman Andy Fiber (7th place, 22:31.38) and junior Lily Haught (8th place, 22:50.21) both qualified.
The women’s Class AA race will begin the championship Saturday at 9 a.m., with the AA men’s race starting 45 minutes later. The Class AAA girls will set out on the 5K course at noon, with the boys scheduled to run 45 minutes later. In Class A, the girls start at 3 p.m., and the boys end their six-race day at 3:45 p.m.
