West Texas A&M University has significantly improved its standing among other schools in the West, according to new rankings from U.S. News & World Report.
Among Best Value Schools in the West, WT ranks No. 5, jumping from No. 20 in 2022-2023. On the magazine’s Regional Universities (Western) list, the school rose from 56th place last year to 47th place this year. WT ranks 24th on the list of top public universities in the West, moving up three spots.
“The accolades from U.S. News & World Report strongly confirm that West Texas A&M University sets very high standards for academic excellence when compared to the nation’s best universities.” said Dr. Neil Terry, provost and executive vice president for academic affairs. . “We have achieved this recognition because of the dedication of WT faculty and staff to student success.”
U.S. News’ Best Colleges rankings provide data-driven information and guidance to help prospective students and their families understand their higher education options. The U.S. News Institution Directory includes ranking data for each school and key characteristics regarding majors, campus life, tuition, and more. Users can filter schools by selected academic and non-academic characteristics based on their chosen priorities.

Wendler. “Recognition from agencies like U.S. News, which tracks academic excellence across all institutions, is further evidence for students and families that WT is an excellent choice for their higher education dreams and goals. We want to attract students who are not afraid of excellence.”
U.S. News analysts and editors used a wide range of data sources to calculate more than 80 Best College Rankings. This was done with the goal of helping students and their families find the university that best fits their needs. The rankings focus on areas such as values, social mobility, education, veterans’ needs, and historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs), as well as six areas in business, computer science, engineering, nursing, economics, and psychology. We highlight universities that excel in three academic fields.
In February of this year, U.S. News ranked WT’s online bachelor’s degree program 45th in the nation and then 3rd in Texas. A total of 11 programs earned the magazine’s coveted Best Program status. Online Bachelor’s Programs, Online Bachelor’s Programs for Veterans, Online Undergraduate Business Programs, Online MBA, Online MBA for Veterans, and Graduate Programs in Computer Information Technology, Criminal Justice, and Public Administration. Education, Engineering, Business (non-MBA), Nursing.
WT has been committed to being a learner-centered university. This is a key component of the university’s long-term plan, WT 125: From the Panhandle to the World, and is powered by the historic One West comprehensive fundraising campaign. One West reached its original goal of $125 million 18 months after opening to the public in September 2021. The campaign’s new goal is to reach $175 million by 2025. To date, One West has raised approximately $160 million.
