ABINGDON, Va. — Food City will once again host its annual Jonia Berry Toy Drive, celebrating the retailer’s 20th anniversary of hosting the commemorative drive, which began in 2005.
“Jonnia was very passionate about helping children. Every year, Food City participates in the annual Jonia Berry Toy Drive, which donates thousands of toys to needy children in our area. We’re proud to be a leading company,” said Food City President and Chief Stephen C. Smith. Executive officer.
This activity begins on November 1st and will continue until December 2nd. Specially marked collection containers will be placed at Food City District locations throughout the Tri-Cities.
The toys will be distributed on Dec. 6, the anniversary of Jonia’s death. Pharaoh’s Car Club of Southwest Virginia volunteered to help pick up and distribute the toys.
To receive the toys, the Berry family went to Tri-State Children’s Home, Highland Community Services (IDD Division), Safe Passage Women’s Shelter, Northeast Tennessee Community Help Center, and Cumber of Cedar Bluff, Virginia. They selected several local agencies, including Rand Mountain Community Services. , the HOPE Center in Greenville, Tennessee, local schools in Virginia and Tennessee, and many others.
