AUSTIN, Texas — The University of Texas men’s basketball team is ranked No. 19 in the preseason USA TODAY Sports coaches poll, news outlets announced Wednesday.
The Longhorns were one of nine Southeastern Conference teams selected in the preseason top 25, joining Alabama (2), Auburn (11), Tennessee (12), Texas A&M (15), and Arkansas ( 16), Florida (21), Kentucky (23) and Ole Miss (25). Texas was also ranked No. 19 in the preseason AP poll earlier this month.
Texas has advanced to at least the NCAA Round of 32 in each of the past three seasons and advanced to the NCAA Elite Eight in head coach Rodney Terry’s first year in 2022-23. This is the first time the University of Texas has won the NCAA First Round in three consecutive seasons since the University of Texas won four consecutive NCAA First Rounds from 2006 to 2009. The Longhorns are one of only eight schools in the nation to advance to the round of 32 or higher in the NCAA Tournament over the past three years, joining Baylor, Creighton, Gonzaga, Houston, Kansas, Michigan State and Tennessee.
Texas opens the 2024-25 season with a neutral-field showdown against Ohio State on Monday, Nov. 4, as part of the Hall of Fame Series Las Vegas Opening Night event. The tip is scheduled for approximately 9:00 p.m. CT (7:00 p.m. PT) at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, and the game will be broadcast nationally by TNT and truTV and streamed by Max. The Longhorns will play their home opener on Friday, November 8th against Houston Christian presented by TRUST. Tipoff for the home opener is set for 7 p.m. at Central’s Moody Center, and the contest will be streamed by SEC Network+.
