The most popular team on Texas Tech University’s campus is Tom Stone’s soccer team. The Red Raiders, currently ranked 14th in the national poll, are on a 13-game unbeaten streak after Saturday’s 3-0 road win over Cincinnati.
Tech is currently 13-2-2 overall and 7-0-2 in Big 12 play, tied for first place in the conference with TCU. Moreover, this is the first loss for Stone’s team since August 25th.
Against the Bearcats, Caitlin Giametta scored the Red Raiders’ first goal in the 15th minute. For quite some time, it looked like this goal would be the Red Raiders’ only points.
However, Peyton Parsons scored his eighth goal of the season in the 80th minute. Just over six minutes later, Taylor Zdrojewski scored his team’s third goal and seventh of the season.
“We’ve talked all year long that if we lead by one point, we can’t let off the gas,” Stone said. “It cost us a few times. At half-time we talked about a one-goal lead but we said we couldn’t slow down because time was running out. On Monday, Oct. 28, the Texas Tech men’s and women’s basketball programs will close Broadway Street for the first-ever “Broadway Block Party.” The event will feature a basketball court built in the middle of Broadway, giving fans the opportunity to interact with players and coaches from both teams.
Admission is free for everyone. The 2024-25 college basketball season begins in Lubbock with multi-day games at United Supermarket Arena, with the Lady Raiders opening the season against Incarnate Word on Monday, Nov. 4 at 6 p.m., followed by the Red Raiders taking on the Red Raiders. Grant McCasland and representatives from the Texas Tech basketball team are scheduled to be in Kansas City on Wednesday to attend Big 12 Basketball Media Day. The Red Raiders will be represented by Chance McMillon, Kerwin Walton and Darrion Williams.
Last season was McMillon and Williams’ first season as Red Raiders. McMillion averaged 10.8 points and 4.0 rebounds per game, while Williams averaged 11.4 points and 7.5 rebounds per game.
Meanwhile, Walton averaged 8.5 points and 2.4 rebounds per game. In his second year at Tech after two years at North Carolina, he started 26 of 33 games.
Juliet Cerbet and Solomon Kipchoge were each named Big 12 Runners of the Week for their performances last week.
On Friday, in the women’s 6km race at Arturo Barrios, Cerveto took first place with a time of 18:37.0, winning by 24 seconds. This was a good course record, bettering the 18:58.20 set by Parker Valby in 2023.
As for Kipchoge, he did his best with a 19 second difference. The 8km time was 22 minutes 01.40 seconds, setting a new course record.
