Each week during the school year, The News-Press selects players who stood out over the past week based on a combination of coaches’ reports and school nominations sent to sports@news-press.com and our own coverage . These athletes take part in a poll every Monday on news-press.com where readers can vote for the athlete they think did the best job.
The winner of “The News-Press Athlete of the Week” voting sponsored by Elevate Home Services will receive a T-shirt provided by BSN Sports and a tote bag provided by USA Today High School Sports Awards. Voting ends every Thursday at 10am. Winners will be announced on the @newspresssports Instagram page and on Twitter (@nphssports).

Kreuscher caught 13 passes for 143 yards and four touchdowns in the Wildcats’ 39-12 win over Lemon Bay on Friday.

Jayden Boyd, Cape Coral
Boyd scored the decisive score with a 55-yard fumble return for a touchdown in the Seahawks’ game against Riverdale on Friday.

Zachary Zielke, Bishop Vero
Zielke completed the race in 16:04.8, helping the Vikings win the team title on Tuesday and the Private 8 title.
women’s cross country
Mackenzie de Lisle, Bishop of Vero
De Lille finished the race Tuesday in 18 minutes, 23.8 seconds to win the Private 8 title.
volleyball
Ashley Tenkley, Fort Myers
Tenkley had 20 kills, 11 digs and three aces in the Green Wave’s district championship win against Riverdale on Thursday.

Jesslyn Beach, ECS
Beach helped win the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relay Friday against Cypress Lake, as well as winning the 50 and 500 free events.
women’s bowling
Tasiyana Baez, Cape Coral
Báez led the Seahawks to a high score of 212 in the Seahawks’ win against South Fort Myers on Thursday.
