The Alcona High School cross country team competed in the Northern Michigan Champions meet Saturday morning. The weather was perfect for running. Cole Upper finished 61st out of 239 with a time of 18 minutes, 12 seconds, and Darren Boyatt finished 86th with a season-best time of 18 minutes, 47 seconds.
This week, the team will focus on preparing for the regional tournament, which will be held in East Jordan on Saturday.
Arkona football beats Rogers City 73-6.
Alcona High School defeated Rogers City High School on Friday by a score of 73-6.
The Tigers scored 4 TDs in the first quarter. The first was Garrett Summers to William Liebler, the second to Evan Woods, the third to Brandon Fogle, and the fourth from Summers to Liebler, with Summers scoring a 22-yard run.
The Tigers added five more TDs in the second quarter. The first was a 1-yard catch by Travis Walker. Ricky Schott then had a 22-yard TD catch, followed by Carsen Gonya’s 29-yard TD catch.
The scoring ended with Summers running in Evan Borsvold and Ricky Schott from 3 yards left.
The Tigers’ defense was also roaming, led by Keegan Ritchie, who had 11 tackles. The defense produced seven takeaways en route to the Homecoming win.
