One Direction members and celebrities react to Liam Payne’s ‘heartbreaking’ death
How Kate Cassidy and Liam Payne met and went public with their relationship
The influencer, who boasts more than 600,000 followers on Instagram, and the “Strip That Down” singer went public with their relationship in 2022. Cassidy posted a photo of the pair making their red carpet debut at the British Fashion Awards in December of the same year, and Payne looked on with a dreamy smile, calling the night “amazing” in the caption.
In a TikTok posted last month, Cassidy told her followers how she met the 1D singer. According to Cassidy, when she was 23 and working at Ritual Nightclub in Charleston, South Carolina, her manager said, “Liam Payne from One Direction is here, and you’re going to look after him tonight.” “Yo,” he received an email.
Cassidy, who has family in London, told Payne that she frequently travels across the pond, and Payne said he wanted to be her “tour guide.” The next day, they had lunch together, went on a bowling date, and then went on a ghost tour. Later in the video, Cassidy told her 850,000 TikTok followers that Payne had delayed her return to the UK by three days.
She added: “Everything happens for a reason. Don’t try to take time off work just because you want to go to a party, because you never know if you’ll be able to go see your future husband.”
Cheryl Cole, Liam Payne’s ex-girlfriend and mother of his son Bear, also broke her silence on Friday.
Cassidy isn’t the only longtime lover Payne mourns his death. On Friday, British singer Cheryl Cole, who lost Payne and their 7-year-old son Bear, mourned his death in a long, heartfelt Instagram post.
“As I move through this earth-shattering event and try to work through my own grief during this indescribably painful time, I would like to gently remind everyone that we have lost a human being. I think so,” she wrote. “Liam was not only a pop star and celebrity, but also a son, brother, uncle, dear friend, and father to our seven-year-old son.”
“My son now has to face the reality that he will never see his father again. What troubles my psyche the most is that someday Bear will have to deal with the abhorrent coverage and media we’ve seen over the past two days. That means he will have access to exploitation, and it pains me even more to know that I will not be able to protect his future from that.” Cole’s statement continued.
Cole and Payne first met during a solo audition for the British version of The X Factor in 2008, and apparently reunited in 2015 when One Direction went on an indefinite hiatus. The two dated from 2016 to 2018, and their son was born in March 2017. All members of One Direction also posted tributes to Payne in the days following his death.
