Luxury resort Baha Mar has announced expansion plans that include the addition of a new resort and residences. Groundbreaking is scheduled for 2026, with opening set for 2029. The project has been approved by Baha Mar and the Government of the Bahamas, and a Memorandum of Understanding has been signed.
The proposed resort will be designed by Foster + Partners and built on 12 acres of beachfront property. It features approximately 350 guest rooms and 50 luxury residences overlooking the turquoise waters of Cable Beach. Four new restaurants, a 14,000-square-foot spa and fitness center, high-end retail, and an expansive pool will be among the amenities. 25,000 square feet of dedicated indoor and outdoor event space is also planned, including a 10,000 square foot ballroom and other function rooms.
The new resort is part of a $350 million capital investment in the Baha Mar Resort Collection and is expected to stimulate economic growth and job creation in the Bahamas. The resort will be built on the site of Melia Nassau Beach, which was demolished in 2021. It is expected to employ 400 people during construction and more than 500 upon completion.
Bahamian Prime Minister Philip Davis praised Baha Mar’s efforts to promote tourism and economic development. Guests of the new resort will have full access to all of Baha Mar’s amenities, including Baja Bay, a $200 million luxury water park. The new resort brand and operating partner will be announced at a later date.
Baha Mar is a 1,000-acre integrated resort development overlooking Cable Beach. Three global brand operators are participating: Grand Hyatt, SLS and Rosewood, offering more than 2,300 rooms and more than 45 restaurants and lounges. It’s also home to the Caribbean’s largest casino and the $200 million Baja Bay luxury water park.
