At least 28 people, including children, killed in Israeli attack on northern Gaza, officials say
While we focus on the possible killing of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, Israel’s attack on Gaza continues.
At least 28 people, including children, were killed in strikes in the northern part of the enclave, Gaza health ministry officials said.
Dozens of others were injured, Medat Abbas said, adding: “There is no water to put out the fire. There is nothing. This is a massacre.”
“Civilians and children are being killed and burned.”
The Israeli military said the attack targeted militants from Hamas and the Islamic Jihad group, who were operating inside the Abu Hussein School in Jabalia, which was serving as a shelter for displaced people.
It said dozens of militants were on the premises when the attack took place.
It said it was taking precautions to reduce harm to civilians and accused Hamas of using civilians as human shields, an action the militant group denies.
Hamas said the claim that there were militants in the school was “nothing but a lie,” adding that this was a “systematic policy of the enemy to justify crimes.”
Earlier today, Palestinian health authorities announced that at least 11 people were killed in two separate Israeli attacks in Gaza City, and several others in the south-central Gaza region.
