Between Friendship Fountain and Acosta Bridge, a high-rise luxury apartment complex and riverside restaurant will be built.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A picture-perfect place in Jacksonville is about to undergo some major changes.
Plans for hundreds of people to gather on the city’s Southbank have been finalized. Between Friendship Fountain and Acosta Bridge, high-rise luxury apartments and riverside restaurants will be built.
Friendship Fountain is a picturesque gathering spot for tourists, prom dates, and Jacksonville’s new soccer team, the First Coast Athletics.
“We actually came here to do a photo shoot,” said Juan Gonzalez, wearing the team’s new jersey.
“We also chose this location for our uniforms,” added Joseph Koss, showing off the Main Street Bridge portion of the jerseys.
But part of Jacksonville’s skyline is about to change. Construction of a new high-rise building with around 400 luxury rental units, parking and a restaurant is officially planned. First Coast News spoke with Downtown Investment Authority CEO Lori Boyer about the matter after it was discussed at Wednesday’s meeting.
“This is the same area where the city is building the bulkhead and where I said the city’s project to rebuild the bulkhead would be completed by April, but that has to happen before we can actually break ground.” Boyer said.
The developer, Miami Related Group, must complete the final design for the skyscraper by the end of May, according to DIA documents. These documents state that construction of the high-rise luxury apartments must be completed by April 2029 at the latest.
