The Cincinnati Bengals defeated the New York Giants 17-7 on the road, good enough for their second win of the season.
Tight ends and running backs continue to be the most interesting positions in the Bengals’ offense.
Versatile rookie Eric Orr’s 23 snaps were second only to Drew Sample’s 26. However, Orr’s only production at the position in the passing game was his two catches on three targets. Gesicki was third with 19 snaps, while Tanner Hudson had four reps.
Chase Brown looked like an RB1. He had the first touch of the night, totaling 33 snaps to Zack Moss’ 24. The running game struggled to get going until the final drive. It lacked consistency, but a few nice runs from Chase led to respectable numbers.
The Bengals received some attention this week by replacing Jermaine Burton with Trenton Irwin, but the move had little impact on the game. Irwin played three offensive snaps, which was about the same as what Barton was getting. If you’re wondering if he was operating for special teams value, he wasn’t. He didn’t take a single special teams snap.
Bengals fans can breathe a sigh of relief. After leaving the game early last week, first-round pick Amarius Mims played every snap against the Giants.
BJ Hill played 55 snaps inside the defense and stole the ball. Sheldon Rankins added 42 points. Rookies Kris Jenkins (39) and McKinley Jackson (21) also contributed significantly to a unit that looks much improved.
On the edge, Trey Hendrickson led the way with 47 snaps. In an interesting development, Joseph Ossai’s 40 snaps were one more than Sam Hubbard’s 39 snaps. Myles Murphy added 32 with a strong rotation.
With Dax Hill sidelined, DJ Turner and Cam Taylor-Britt played all but one defensive snap against the Giants. Linebacker Logan Wilson was the only player to log every defensive snap.
Despite struggling throughout the season, Geno Stone continues to complete nearly every defensive snap (99% this week), while Vonn Bell (84%) has a few points behind Jordan Battle (18%). I gave up the rep.
