High expectations are placed on Michael Orise (22). The playmaker impressed with Les Bleus at the Olympiad before being called up to the first team in September after joining Bayern Munich from Crystal Palace.
His form since moving to the Bundesliga has been 6 goals and 3 assists in 9 games in all competitions, and his expectations have only increased. However, he has yet to replicate that form for France. He earned his third cap for Les Bleus in Thursday night’s 4-1 UEFA Nations League win over Israel. Despite that win, the former Crystal Palace man struggled.
After the match, Didier Deschamps admitted that the playmaker “could do more.” The French coach added: “He didn’t play his best game, and he knows it subconsciously. He can do a lot, but he made a lot of technical mistakes.” Bayern Munich forward lost the ball 22 times that night, looked isolated from his teammates, struggled to pick them up, and often found himself in dead ends.
L’Equipe has now revealed that when speaking to a source from the Les Bleus camp, Orissée said he was “troubled by the mistakes he made in Budapest.” It remains to be seen whether he will get a chance to atone for those mistakes on Monday against Belgium. Matteo Guendouzi is expected to start against Olise in the Nations League fixture.
