Architect, author, photographer and golf course enthusiast Sam Cooper has turned his travels around the English coast into a remarkable series of diary entries.
The 18-volume Links From The Road publication reviews 225 links golf courses and will be released quarterly starting with Volume 1 on October 16th.
Each volume in the series contains essays on 12 courses and takes the reader on a journey around the English coast, starting and ending at the author’s home on the Wirral River. Reviews are supplemented with bespoke course photos and unique illustrations.
“It’s a combination of history, architecture, photography and pure geekiness,” said Cooper, who works for the golf course design firm Clayton, DeVries & Pont. The idea came during the first pandemic lockdown in 2002. With permission, he bought a campervan and embarked on an obsessive quest to play every links course in Britain with his wife and two dogs. “This is a passion project of mine, and I hope golf fans will join me on this adventure.”
Cooper’s blog and social media channels have struck a chord with every true golfer who has dreamed of doing something similar. Now, Links From The Road tells his journey in the form of a beautifully crafted 18-issue magazine series with detailed features and photographs of all 225 links he encountered.
Published by magazine experts 18Players, each volume offers around 12 courses with detailed content. All reviews include Cooper’s own photographs, and the illustrations provide an additional level of detail.
Cooper also ponders the architecture of the golf course, detailing his favorite holes on each leg of the trip, and even recommends places to eat, drink, and stay along the way.
Volume 1 of Links from the Road will be released on October 16th, priced at £17.
