Sergio Garcia headed to Portugal earlier this month to visit Terras da Comporta and assess the progress of his long-awaited project, the Torre Course, ahead of its grand opening next summer.
The Ryder Cup legend and 2017 Masters champion took time out of his busy playing schedule to meet with the design team and tour the site of the first major course for which he had overall design responsibility. .
The Torre Course will open in October 2023 and follow the huge success of the David McRae Kidd-designed Dunas Course, which received critical acclaim and will transform Terrace da Comporta into a 36-hole venue.
Several key players in Portugal’s golf industry, as well as senior management from Vanguard Properties, the development company that owns Terrasse da Comporta, were in attendance to receive updates and hear from Garcia and his team. I heard it.

“It was incredibly exciting to see the progress since my last visit. Of course, I spent a lot of time visualizing each hole, but nothing compares to seeing it in person,” said Garcia. The course is really starting to take shape and the whole team is itching to get out there and play.
“Terras da Comporta is a unique destination in the Portuguese golf world, not only because of its great location but also because of the quality of the Dunas Course. Once the Torre Course opens, we will be proud to say that this is one of the best golf courses anywhere in Europe. It’s definitely going to be one of the 36-hole venues.”
When designing the Torre course, Garcia took inspiration from Real Club Valderrama, which he cites as his favorite course in the world. The par 72 layout features wide fairways and small greens, measuring 6,575 meters from the back tees.
Rodrigo Ulrich, Director of Golf at Terrasse da Comporta, said: “We are very happy to welcome Sergio back to the local tour. We are more confident than ever that the Torre course will be something very special once it is completed.”
“We look forward to media and tour operators previewing the course next spring, and of course opening to public play next summer.”
In addition to two 18-hole golf courses, Terrace da Comporta boasts a wide range of lifestyle and sports facilities including tennis, padel, pickleball and horse riding. The development, located just an hour south of Lisbon, also includes a series of lots for hotels, tourists and residential condominiums.
