A new death was reported in Hillsborough County, which includes Tampa, raising the death toll from Hurricane Milton to at least 14, CNN reported.
A woman in her late 70s was killed when a large tree branch fell on her during post-hurricane recovery work. The incident occurred just after 11 a.m. ET Thursday, as stated in a city news release.

“While the storm has passed, its devastation tragically claimed the life of one of our community members,” said Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercow. “My thoughts are with the families who are grieving their loved ones.”
More than 2.9 million utility customers across Florida lost power. The storm made landfall as a Category 3 hurricane, up from its original Category 5, Al Jazeera reported.
Twenty-five people have been rescued from a mobile home park in St. Lucie County where six people were killed, Sheriff Keith Pearson told CNN.
Officials don’t know exactly how many people are searching, but crews are combing through the rubble of destroyed homes looking for others, Pearson said. But the circumstances of the search make that difficult.
US President Joe Biden also advised the public to stay safe in the aftermath of Hurricane Milton.
While sharing X’s post, he wrote, “To everyone affected by Hurricane Milton: Stay in the roads, stay off the roads. Downed power lines, debris, washed out roads. A dangerous situation has arisen. Rescue is on the way, but once it arrives, shelter in place until local authorities say it’s safe to leave. ”
In another post, he wrote, “The past few days have been difficult, but so many Americans have come together to do incredible things, including first responders, friends, family, and neighbors looking out for each other. As of Wednesday morning, just over 23% of Florida gas stations were out of fuel, including more than 59% in the Tampa Bay and St. Petersburg areas, CBS News reported, citing GasBuddy. It is said that it is included. This number had increased since Tuesday night.
Tornado warnings were issued for various cities, in addition to hurricane and storm surge warnings already in effect for many of the same locations.
