Dr. Karin Pfeiffer is the Red Cedar Distinguished Professor in the Department of Kinesiology at Michigan State University (MSU) and a Fellow of both the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and the National Academy of Kinesiology (NAK). In August 2022, he was appointed director of the Youth Sports Research Institute. She received her Ph.D. He received his PhD from MSU in 2001 and served as a postdoctoral fellow and research assistant professor at the University of South Carolina Arnold School of Public Health from 2001 to 2006. She joined MSU in 2006 as an assistant professor.
Pfeiffer has spent the past 25 years researching fitness as it relates to physical activity and health in children and youth. Her main areas of expertise are physical activity measurement and interventions to increase physical activity in children and adolescents. She has published more than 250 research publications and has worked on several National Institutes of Health and foundation-funded research projects.
Mr. Pfeiffer will end his term as vice president of ACSM in June 2022 and is currently serving as president-elect of the International Society for Physical Behavior Measurement. She is also a member of the leadership committee of the National Youth Sports Health and Safety Institute and is the incoming chair of the National Physical Activity Plan. She is a past president of the North American Society of Pediatric Exercise Medicine and the ACSM Midwest Regional Chapter, and a national ACSM board member. She also twice served on the Scientific Committee of the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition.
