Almost the same rate in public opinion polls
After an eventful week in the presidential election, the candidates are tied in the polls. Times reporters Nate Cohn, Michael Barbaro, Maggie Haberman and Shane Goldmacher discuss the current state of the race with the Nov. 5 election nearly a month away.
“It’s also worth noting that the polls have remained relatively stable over the past two weeks, with very little change in the polling averages that we publish here at the New York Times. “And I guess you could say that between the relative stability of the news and the stability of the numbers, this is the race that we’re in right now. “This is the pause in this campaign. “Okay, within that framework, what exactly is this resting stable state stagnation?” “Resting stable. A standstill seems like a more or less exact tie.” “That’s a surprising statement.” “That’s a — a surprising statement. And this is, at least for the time I’ve been covering the polls. And I think if you look back at history, you’ll see that it’s very rare or unprecedented.”
