October 2, 2024 — UTSA continues to gain momentum with an outstanding reputation for academic excellence, innovation, and a commitment to social mobility, according to U.S. News & World Report’s 2025 list of America’s Best Colleges.
“UTSA’s rise in rankings is a direct result of the outstanding work of our faculty and staff who continue to advance our efforts to achieve our three strategic destinations while building a world-class university,” said UTSA President Taylor Amy. This is the result.” “I am deeply proud of the University community’s commitment to excellence, especially as it relates to helping students create a path to success for themselves and their families.”
UTSA advances in national university rankings
UTSA moved up 49 spots in the Best National Universities category, ranking 231st out of 434 universities ranked, and tied for second out of 18 universities nationwide with the largest increase in rankings. This increase reflects the university’s growing reputation, student success and research excellence. Over the past five years, UTSA has achieved several milestones, including earning the prestigious Carnegie R1 designation, which ranks the university among the nation’s top research institutions.
UTSA also expanded its physical footprint in downtown San Antonio by welcoming the UTSA Southwest Campus, opening the high-tech San Pedro I building, and progressing construction on San Pedro II. The university’s growth will continue through 2025 as the UT System Board of Governors approved the merger of UTSA and UT Health San Antonio.
UTSA’s bold approach to innovation has consistently driven its success. Through new degree programs, cutting-edge academic technology, dynamic student success programming, and collaborative research environments, universities are equipping themselves with the knowledge and adaptive skills that will help them thrive under the influence of technologies such as generative artificial intelligence (GenAI). We prepare students. Grow.
To support this goal, UTSA recently announced the creation of a new college focused on artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, computing, and data science. With approximately 6,000 students already enrolled in these programs, the university is advancing academic excellence and positioning itself as a leader in advanced technology while meeting the needs of today’s workforce.
