To keep the mall a “family-friendly” space, Willow Grove Park will implement a new parental supervision policy for visitors under 18 starting Tuesday, according to the mall’s website.
The new policy requires visitors under the age of 18 to be accompanied by a parent or guardian who is at least 21 years old, Monday through Saturday from 5 p.m., and Sunday from 3 p.m. This policy applies to Willow Grove Park parking lots. Corridors leading to premises, garages, mall walkways, and shopping centers, except for stores with outdoor entrances.
Mall security will enforce this policy and begin monitoring entrances to the mall from 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 3 p.m. Sunday. These guidelines are now posted at all mall entrances.
Willow Grove Park says a parent or guardian over the age of 21 may supervise up to four minors, at least one of whom must be the parent or guardian’s child present. The policy also states that parents over the age of 21 can accompany all children.
If the security guard cannot determine the age of the child, parent, or legal guardian, a photo ID from a state agency, school, or employer is required to verify date of birth. If your age cannot be determined or if you do not have ID, you will be asked to leave the shopping center.
Willow Grove Park is reminding those who plan to take public transportation to and from the mall to schedule their departures accordingly to comply with the new policy deadlines.
Youth under the age of 18 who work in malls are allowed to be unaccompanied for work purposes as long as the shift falls within the parental supervision policy, but must provide proof of employment status. . The mall requires these employees to leave the office after their shift ends if their work period falls within the policy period and they are not supervised by their parents.
Children and teens who violate the new policy or Willow Grove Park’s Code of Conduct and refuse to leave when asked by security personnel may be charged with trespassing.
