🏈 Football Five
The Vikings, now 4-0, will continue to advance. Sam Darnold threw three touchdown passes and Minnesota defended well to beat the Packers 31-29. The Vikings also picked off Jordan Love three times when he returned from a knee injury (although he did throw four touchdowns). Minnesota is one for Cody Benjamin Week 4 winner. Meanwhile, Packers coach Matt LaFleur “It’s totally embarrassing.”The Chiefs also beat the Chargers 17-10 to improve to 4-0, but Kansas City suffered a setback in the process: star wide receiver Lachie Rice I was worried that I might have torn my ACL.a devastating blow. Here’s how KC can trying to move forward. The Steelers fell from their undefeated standings. 27-24 loss To the Colts even though Justin Fields had huge game Anthony Richardson (hip) I left work early and didn’t come back. Timeless wonder Joe Flacco was great in Richardson’s place. Meanwhile, Minka Fitzpatrick sharp words Todd Bowles dominated Jalen Hurts and the Buccaneers defeated the Eagles 33-16. Tampa Bay sacked Hurts six times and Baker Mayfield threw for 347 yards and three total touchdowns. Brandon Graham called to a team meeting after a loss. I agree. Same goes for Jacksonville. The Texans defeated the Jaguars 24-20, with CJ Stroud scoring a 1-yard touchdown to Dare Ogunbouyere with 18 seconds left. The Jags are 0-4. Change may be coming. There was bad beattoo.
🏈 Good morning everyone, especially…
Baltimore Ravens…
From the first offensive snap — Derrick Henry’s Franchise-record 87-yard touchdown –The Ravens started to dominate. This time, they made sure their efforts continued to the end. Baltimore defeated the previously undefeated Bills 35-10 in a flawless performance.
Lamar Jackson threw for two touchdowns and went for another, and Henry ran for 199 yards and two scores. Justice Hill showed he’s more than just two guys in the backfield. He totaled 96 yards and one score, and we love his skill set as a complement to Henry’s. Early MVP frontrunner Josh Allen had his first game without a touchdown since November 2021.
Baltimore jumped out to a big lead against the Raiders in Week 2 and nearly blew a lead against the Cowboys in Week 3. It looked like it would happen again: The first three drives of the second half were three-and-outs for Baltimore, sandwiched by Buffalo touchdowns. Buffalo pushed back and found themselves down 21-10 until Kyle Van Noy made an incredible strip-sack of Allen. Buffalo never threatened again, and after an 0-2 start, Baltimore once again rose to the top of the NFL.
…and good morning, Alabama Crimson Tide and college football fans.
The phrase “all-timer” gets thrown around haphazardly. Not all great games are all-timers.
But what about this? This, my friends, was an all-timer.
Alabama defeated Georgia 41-34 in a heavyweight battle for the ages in one of the best finishes I’ve ever seen.
After leading 28-0 early and 30-7 at halftime, Alabama’s offense stalled and Georgia picked up steam. Trailing 33-28, Georgia got the ball back with less than three minutes left, and Carson Beck found Dillon Bell on the first play. One play later, Jalen Milroe found Ryan Williams for a 75-yard touchdown. A play you can’t stop watching. catch. balance. That’s the recognition. It’s body control. movement. speed. all. And Williams is 17 years old! Is he next? Julio Jones?Beck had another chance, but Zavian Brown, a true freshman like Williams, picked off a jump ball in the end zone.
This is John Talty’s Great column from Tuscaloosa.
If anyone thought the 12-team College Football Playoff would ruin the sport, think again. When Beck found Bell to give Georgia the lead, no one thought, “Who cares?” When Williams jumped, juked, and scored, giving Alabama the lead back one play later, no one thought, “This is pointless.” And when Brown picked Beck up to finish it off, no one yawned and immediately went to bed, his heart rate steady all night.
No, this had meaning. Georgia’s odds have narrowed, with games against Texas, Ole Miss and Tennessee still remaining. Not every game should feel “do or die”. But who would object to watching that match? Once again…and again?
The new playoffs leave a chance for even more all-time players to compete. All fans should accept it.

👍 Honorable Mention
⚾ And there’s no such thing as a good morning…
chicago white sox
The White Sox finished with 41 wins and 121 losses, setting a record for most losses in a season in modern MLB history. The 1962 Mets lost 120 games, so the game was really on the line. In fact, Chicago has won five of its last six games.
Find out more about the season that will have lasting infamy…
Maybe next year! (But probably not) (And probably not right away)
👎 Not really an honorable mention
⚾ MLB playoffs almost decided: Mets vs. Braves doubleheader will decide National League spot
The late Ernie Banks would say, “Today is a great day for a ball game. Let’s play two ball games.”
Adds, “And check out the final two playoff spots!”
With all other teams finishing their regular season on Sunday, the Mets and Braves will play a doubleheader today to determine the second and third wild card spots in the National League after Hurricane Helen. postponed two of the meetings last week.
The Mets and Braves aren’t the only ones in big trouble. The Diamondbacks are also worth keeping an eye on. Here’s why:
Mets win both games: Mets No. 5 seed, Diamondbacks No. 6 seed, Braves lose Braves win both games: Braves No. 5 seed, Diamondbacks No. 6 seed, Mets lose Braves, Mets split game: Braves No. 5 seed, Mets No. 6 seed, Diamondbacks defeated.
In the AL, things were less dramatic. tigers decided to advance to the playoffs on friday, like I did Royals. Both represent magical reversals. Detroit was sold at the trade deadline and was 10 games out of the Wild Card spot on Aug. 10, but has since won 31 of 42 games. Kansas City is only the second team to reach the playoffs a year after losing 100 games. season.
So… after all… The playoffs are (almost) decided.:
american league
Bye: 1st place Yankees vs. 2nd place Guardians Wild card: 6th place Royals vs. 3rd place Astros (winner plays against Guardians) Wild card: 5th place Tigers vs. 4th place Orioles (winner plays against Yankees)
national league
Byes: 1st place Dodgers, 2nd place Phillies Wild card: 3rd place Brewers, 6th place to be determined (winner will play the Phillies) Wild card: 4th place Padres, 5th place to be determined (winner will play the Dodgers)
⛳ USA wins 10th consecutive Presidents Cup
The Presidents Cup will remain in the United States, but this time it had a little extra meaning for the winners. The United States defeated the international team 18 1/2-11 1/2 with Keegan Bradley’s 1UP win over Kim Si-woo and a proper deciding point. It was the Americans’ 10th straight Presidents Cup victory and the largest win by an away team in the tournament’s history.
Bradley was controversially and heartbreakingly removed from last year’s Ryder Cup squad and has not played on a Ryder Cup or Presidents Cup team since 2014. He will be Ryder Cup captain next year. But he had to ride off into the sunset on a (presumably) emotional high as a U.S. player.
It wasn’t always this explosive. The U.S. dominated Thursday’s session 5-0, and the international team turned things around on Friday. But the U.S. won both sessions Saturday 3-1, setting the stage for a relatively easy Sunday in which the U.S. had 4.5 points in the first six contests.
Standout players include Xander Schauffele, Collin Morikawa and Patrick Cantlay, who went 4-1-0 on the week, and Sam Barnes, who went 3-0-1.
Kudos to the international team for bringing so much energy (Kim Siu imitated Stephen Curry) “Night Night” celebration) and keep things interesting for the weekend. We commend the United States for successfully suppressing the threat.
🏀 Liberty, Sun win first semifinal game
Brianna Stewart was quick to issue a statement: This isn’t about last year. Stewart scored 34 points. Liberty defeated the Aces 87-77 in Game 1 of the semifinal series, a rematch of last season’s WNBA Finals.
Stewart did everything he could to reach 30 points in the playoffs for the sixth time in his career, tying him for second all-time with Angel McCoughtry.
the sun in the nightcap won 73-70 Alyssa Thomas (17 points, 10 rebounds, 9 assists) outscored the Lynx and came close to missing out on a triple-double, but made two big shots late.
The WNBA is also held on weekends. won more awards.
🏀 Knicks acquire Karl-Anthony Towns in surprising blockbuster deal
Just when you thought the coast was clear, the NBA delivered another shock. knicks obtained Karl-Anthony Towns of the Timberwolves made a shocking contract a few weeks before the start of the season. Click here for details:
Knicks acquire: Karl-Anthony Towns Timberwolves acquire: Julius Randle, Donte DiVincenzo, 2025 top-13 protected first-round pick (via Pistons) Hornets acquire: Daquan Jeffries, annual salary, draft compensation
Towns is an incredible talent and the best shooter of all time who can be the fulcrum of an offense… all 7 feet tall. Although he doesn’t fit the typical rugged, tireless defender mold coach Tom Thibodeau likes, Sam Quinn did well in New York and Minnesota. His trading performance has been good..
Quinn: “Knicks: B+: He’s not just a great shooter. By almost any statistical measure, he’s the best shooter to ever play center field. He has a knack for getting shots off the big man. That changes everything. … Timberwolves: B+: Anthony Edwards has a chance to be the best player in the world… sacrificing Towns is necessary to ensure Edwards is a long-term contender. If so, it was worth it.”
