At the Maserati GranCabrio Trofeo launch event held in Taichung, Modena Motori Taiwan Chairman John Huang said that Taiwan’s economic growth in recent years can be seen in the delivery of luxury cars. Modena Motori Taiwan has also played an important role in expanding local market share for Ferrari and Maserati.
He emphasized the importance of making sufficient upfront investment for any industry and why brands are impressed by the Taiwanese market.
Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna regularly visits Taiwan personally. As a former senior executive at STMicroelectronics (STM), Vigna and Taiwan’s chip manufacturing industry may be considered long-time acquaintances.
The global chip shortage has spawned a number of Taiwanese high-tech companies. As a result, demand for luxury cars is increasing in the Taiwanese market. For example, Ferrari sales doubled from 2019 to 2023, registering significantly higher demand growth than China or Hong Kong.
According to the number of registered vehicles in August 2024, there are 13 Bentleys, 10 Rolls-Royces, 1,761 Mercedes-Benz, 1,203 BMW, 325 Porsche, 1,586 Lexus, 17 Maserati, 5 Aston Martin, 7 Lamborghini, 1 Lotus.
The growth of the luxury car market is not simply a reflection of economic performance. Taiwan-based suppliers, such as SuperAlloy Industrial (SAI), also play an important role.
SAI said the upcoming production of new models is likely to significantly improve its overall business. Additionally, SAI received an approval letter from Rolls-Royce in the second quarter of 2024, becoming the seventh brand customer to utilize the company’s services.
