SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — As the 2024-25 school year begins across the nation, U.S. News has decided to release its 2025 list of the Best National Universities and Best Regional Universities for each U.S. region.
Among regional universities in the Midwest, Missouri had nine in-state universities ranked in the top 100, including two in the top 10.
The top-ranked university by U.S. News was Truman State University, which ranked fifth in the entire Midwest. Just behind Truman State University is Kansas City’s Rockhurst University, which ranks seventh overall.

Two of Springfield’s universities are also in the top 100. Drury University came in 24th place, followed by Evangel University in 91st place.
Other Missouri universities on the list include Webster University (31st), Northwest Missouri State University (tied for 67th), Stephens College (tied for 67th), Central Missouri State University (73rd), and Southeast They include Missouri State University (82nd);
The rankings are based on graduation and student retention rates, class sizes, student-faculty ratios, SAT and ACT scores, alumni giving rates and peer ratings, according to U.S. News.
