The University of Tulsa continues its renaissance, as evidenced by the 2025 U.S. News & World Report University Rankings released Tuesday.
UTulsa has moved up an impressive 16 spots in the past year, up 8.2%, the largest increase among all private universities in Texas and Oklahoma, including Rice University, Baylor University, Texas Christian University, and Southern Methodist University. was recorded. In fact, UTulsa either maintained its 2024 rankings or improved in nearly every category.
UTulsa’s renowned energy program ranks first among private universities in petroleum engineering and fourth overall in 2025. It’s also tied for 66th place for computer science programs compared to private tech powerhouses like Stanford University, Carnegie Mellon University, and MIT.
The University of Tulsa continues to rank among the top 100 research institutions for all students, public or private. Among the best private universities for veterans, UTulsa is tied for 34th place.
“While many other universities are grappling with declining enrollment, research funding and rankings, we are moving forward,” said UTulsa President Brad Carson. “Enrollment continues to increase year over year, with a record 99% retention rate and 97% employment rate for first-year students from fall 2023 to spring 2024. Each data point exemplifies the excellence that is entrenched across our campus.”
Since Carson took over three years ago, the University of Tulsa has admitted more National Merit students per capita than any other university in the country. This fall, UTulsa welcomed its most academically talented first-year class ever and the second largest class in the nation in the school’s history.
