USF’s overall standing among public and private universities declined this year. U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges Rankings.
Last year, USF ranked 89th, but this time around they’ve dropped to 91st.
Still, the university maintained its position in the top 50 public universities, ranking 45th.
“USF’s continued success as a top 50 public university underscores the strong return on investment our degrees provide for students and the impact we have in the Tampa Bay region, state and beyond,” USF President Leah Law said in a press release Tuesday.

This marks the sixth consecutive year that USF has been ranked in the top 50 among public universities, according to a university-wide email sent Tuesday by President Prasanth Mohapatra.
The school’s highest ranking among public universities was 42nd in 2022. USF dropped three spots last year to 45th, the same position it held this year.

Mohapatra noted in an email that USF has improved its rankings by 39 places among public universities and 65 places among all universities over the past decade.
U.S. News & World Report also ranked USF the “Best Value” among all Florida colleges and universities for the second year in a row.

Mohapatra said the factors considered in the Best Colleges rankings are aligned with USF’s strategic plan.

“USF’s sustained success and strong national reputation would not be possible without our outstanding students, world-class faculty and dedicated staff,” Mohapatra said in an email.
