IOWA CITY — University of Iowa junior running back Caleb Johnson has been named the Big Ten Conference co-offensive player of the year for his performance in the Hawkeyes’ 31-13 win at Minnesota, the league office announced Monday. Johnson will share the honor with University of Illinois quarterback Luke Altmyer.
This is Johnson’s second weekly honor. He was named both Offensive Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week on Nov. 7, 2020, after recording his first career 200-yard rushing game at Purdue.
Johnson recorded his fourth straight 100-yard game against Minnesota and set career highs in rushing yards (206) and touchdowns (3), with scoring runs of 1, 15 and 40 yards.
Johnson is the first Hawkeye to rush for 100 or more yards in four consecutive games since Mark Wiseman in 2012. Johnson now has eight games with 100 or more yards, which is tied for 12th in team history. He has also scored two touchdowns in four consecutive games, which is the first Hawkeye to do so since Mark Wiseman in 2014.
Johnson rushed for 685 yards and nine touchdowns in four games.
