Doctor joins Malam Health Centre
According to the announcement, Dr. Keith M. Ramsey, who specializes in obstetrics and gynecology, recently began seeing patients at the Gary branch of Malham Health Center, located at 3229 Broadway.
According to the release, Ramsey has more than 30 years of experience in women’s health and previously served as chief of obstetrics and gynecology at North Shore Health Center and director of perinatal medicine for the Gary Health Department.
Ramsey, who holds birthing privileges at both Methodist Hospital’s Northlake and Southlake locations, earned her medical doctorate from Meharry Medical College and completed her residency at Northwestern Medical Center in Chicago, according to the release.
Mulvan Announces Four Community Grants
According to the announcement, U.S. Rep. Frank J. Murban (D-Highland) recently announced federal grants to the cities of Crown Point, Merrillville, Portage and Valparaiso under the Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) program.
The SS4A program aims to improve road safety by assisting communities in developing plans to implement infrastructure projects designed to reduce traffic-related deaths and serious injuries, the Department of Transport said in a statement.
Crown Point will receive $280,000, Merrillville will receive $280,000, Portage will receive $280,000 and Valparaiso will receive $200,000 to develop comprehensive safety plans aimed at eliminating roadway fatalities, according to the announcement.
The SS4A Grant Program was announced as part of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, which Mr. Mulvan championed.
Boys & Girls Clubs Launches “Return to Learning” Campaign
Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Northwest Indiana recently launched its annual “Return to Learn” match campaign, which will run through Sept. 25, according to the announcement.
During the two-week campaign, each of the organization’s 10 clubs will compete to raise the most money for their more than 5,000 members, with the University of Chicago Medicine announcing it will match donations up to $100,000.

Influential Women Winners Announced
More than 900 attendees are expected to honor women in business at the 13th annual Northwest Indiana Influential Women Awards Ceremony, which will be held at the Avalon Manor Banquet Center in Merrillville from 5 to 9 p.m., Sept. 26, according to the release.
Winners will be selected from 226 finalists selected from more than 430 nominees submitted to the Northwest Indiana Association of Influential Women (NWIIWA). Two winners will be announced in each of the 12 industry categories: one Emerging Talent winner and one Influential Woman winner. An overall Emerging Talent award and an Influential Woman of the Year award will also be presented.

10 projects receive Porter County grant funding
First Things First Porter County (FTF) announced it has awarded a total of $100,000 to 10 community projects that will support Porter County’s prenatal through 3-year-old care system.
According to the announcement, the $10,000 Collaboration Challenge Grants will be awarded to partner organizations proposing projects that will increase, improve or strengthen programs and services for infants, toddlers and their families in Porter County.
Projects receiving grants include: Healthy Beginnings Porter County (Mental Health America of Northwest Indiana, Porter County Health Department, Porter County Fetal Infant Mortality Review Team), Connecting Early: Building Home-School Connections Starting at Birth (Parents as Teachers Porter County and Portage Township Schools), Food is Healthy: Prenatal – 3 (Powers Health and Valparaiso Family YMCA), Expanding Early Childhood Support with Duneland School and Kidworks Partnership (Duneland School Corp. Grants support EC Hospital’s efforts
St. Catherine Hospital received the grant for programs benefiting newborns and programs to prevent readmissions, according to the announcement.
The Legacy Foundation recently awarded the hospital a $12,000 grant to support a newborn safe discharge program, and the East Chicago Foundation announced a $20,000 grant for a hospital readmission prevention program.
The Readmission Prevention Program will provide education and medications when patients are discharged from the hospital, while the Safe Discharge Program will provide a network of resources, education and support to help mothers recognize appropriate care for their newborns after they are discharged from the hospital, the release said.

Obstetrician-Gynecologist Joins Franciscan Physician Network in Winfield
Dr. Padmaja Sanaka, an obstetrician-gynecologist, recently joined the Franciscan Physician Network in Winfield, according to the announcement.
According to the statement, Sanaka studied medicine at Kurnool Medical College in India and completed his residency training at John H. Stroger Hospital of Cook County and Northwestern University Hospital in Chicago.
Sanaka is accepting patients at Winfield Health Center, 11161 Randolph St., Winfield.
