Syracuse — The Syracuse High School football team capped off a stellar opening week in Region 1 with a 38-37 victory at home on Friday, with neither team trailing by seven points in overtime and preventing Farmington from scoring two points.
Easton Choate, who had already made a 49-yard field goal, attempted a 56-yard field goal with the game tied at 31-31, but Syracuse fumbled the snap and time expired in regulation.
AJ DeHoney scored Syracuse’s third touchdown of the night on the first series of overtime, and Farmington’s Travis Hoopes responded with his third touchdown, but the Titans blocked a two-point attempt to clinch their fourth straight win.
Ledger Wight scored a 78-yard rushing touchdown in the first quarter and threw a 9-yard touchdown pass to Tanner Merrill in the third quarter to help Syracuse (4-2, 1-0 Region 1) take the lead. DeHoney scored on runs of 3 and 10 yards in regulation to ultimately give the Titans a 31-24 lead going into the fourth quarter.
Hoopes scored touchdowns of 3 and 14 yards in regulation for Farmington (1-5, 0-1), and Jackson Beynon booted a 50-yard field goal in the third quarter.
Box Elder 49, Clearfield 7
BRIGHAMM CITY — Tyson Hansen and Carter Buchanan each scored two touchdowns to help Box Elder beat Clearfield.
Hansen opened the scoring for Box Elder (3-3, 1-2 Region 5) with a 3-yard run midway through the first quarter and added a 6-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. Buchanan scored on a 3-yard quarterback keeper late in the first quarter to give the Bees a 14-0 lead. Buchanan also returned an interception 54 yards to give the Bees a 28-7 lead going into the third quarter.
Caidyn Reyes threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to Maddox Ernest to put BE up 21-0. Easton Beauregard scored on a 4-yard dive with 11:15 to go. The Bees closed out the scoring with a 10-yard touchdown pass from Oaklyn Martin to Mason Jeppesen with 4:37 left in the game.
Clearfield (1-5, 0-3)’s Landon Hittle scored on a 2-yard scamper to make the score 21-7 with 1 minute, 20 seconds left in the first half.
Morgan 49, Juan Diego 0
DRAPER — Lincoln Gilson scored three touchdowns and Morgan recorded a shutout win at Juan Diego (2-4, 0-1 3A North) to stay unbeaten and advance to the regional tournament.
Gilson opened the scoring for Morgan (6-0, 1-0) with a 3-yard run. Drew Coase scored on a 1-yard dive late in the first quarter, then Gilson gave Morgan a 21-0 lead with a 3-yard scamper with 9:07 left in the second quarter. Gilson caught a 12-yard pass from Beck Sheffield for a 28-0 lead with 33 seconds left in the first half.
The Colts scored on a 2-yard dive early in the third quarter to extend their lead to 35-0. Cade Randall threw a 27-yard touchdown pass to Boston Zach in the third quarter and then capped the scoring with a 52-yard touchdown pass to Ben Russell with 9:14 left in the game.
St. Joseph 40, Water Springs ID 36
IDAHO FALLS, Idaho — Caden Hass scored three touchdowns, including a game-winning 57-yard run with 1 minute, 22 seconds left, to lead Saint Joseph’s University to a win at Water Springs (Idaho).
Gunner Windsor gave St. Joseph (4-1) the lead with a 10-yard run, Jacob Schonette returned an interception 52 yards for the interception six, then Huss scored on a 30-yard run to give the Jayhawks a 20-0 lead by halftime.
Water Springs scored three touchdowns in the third quarter to take a 24-20 lead. Chenette scored on a 43-yard run to put St. Joseph’s ahead, 27-24. Water Springs then scored to take a 30-27 lead. Huss also scored on a 15-yard run to take a 33-30 lead.
Water Springs scored on a 35-yard run to take a 36-33 lead with 4:22 left in the game, making the game look favorable for Huss.
Grantsville 48, Ben Lomond 13
OGDEN — Jackson Funk ran for 58 yards in the third quarter and 10 yards late in the fourth quarter to account for all of Ben Lomond’s (0-6, 0-1 Region 13) scores in a home loss to Grantsville (5-1, 1-0).
Bountiful 42, Northridge 14
BOUNTIFUL — Bountiful (5-1, 2-1 in Region 5) led 35-0 by halftime and handed Northridge its first loss.
Northridge (5-1, 2-1 SEC) scored touchdowns in the second half on a pass from Trey Nye to Chase Harris and a 1-yard run by Andrew Ortiz, according to a report by the Deseret News. Northridge did not report statistics Friday night.
Ridgeline 42, Bear River 6
GARLAND — Backup quarterback Preston Wilkinson threw a 12-yard touchdown pass to Kash Avery with 1 minute, 11 seconds left in the game to score the only points as Bear River (1-5, 0-2 in Region 11) lost to Ridgeline (6-0, 2-0) in a local region game.

For Syracuse (8-3, 2-1 in Region 1), Brynley Barkdull led the team with 12 kills and Emily Kennison added 11. Carly Hamblin had 23 digs. Mya Risch and McKinley Barkdull each served six aces.
Draper APA 3, St. Joseph 2
DRAPER — St. Joseph’s lost to Draper APA (14-4, 5-0 Region 17) in five sets on Thursday by set scores of 19-25, 17-25, 25-15, 25-21 and 15-8.
Lizzy Randall led St. Joseph (9-6, 4-1) with nine kills, 19 assists and 17 digs, while libero Kenzie Hernandez had 17 digs and eight assists.
